Best Mitre Saw Accessories –

Thanks for taking your time to read our reviews of the best mitre saw accessories that are currently available on the UK marketplace. There are a number of useful accessories that you can get for your mitre saw. There is certainly no need to buy all of them, but some of them can be really useful, depending on the type of work, or projects that you are taking on, or plan to do.

In our opinion, there is no real need to go crazy and get these all at once. Like many things when it comes to buying tools, you tend to build up your collection over time. We have created a list of what we think are the most useful ones below:

  • Blades
  • Stands
  • Work Piece Clamps
  • Mitre Saw Protractors

The stands, jigs and clamps are really useful if you spend most of your time working alone, and need an extra pair of hands. They are also great time savers. Let’s have a look at each in turn, where we will give you a brief overview of what each can do for you. There is a link on each one if you would then like to read more details about that particular accessory.

Mitre Saw Blades

There are a wide range of blades available for your saw. These include blades for standard wood cutting such as those used for ripping, cross cutting, mitre and bevel.

Then there are multi-purpose blades which can be used for cutting different materials such as plastic and metals. In my opinion having the right blade on your saw is what will really make the difference.

Avoid at all costs the temptation to buy really cheap blades. Ideally you want a blade that cuts effectively and is still affordable.

The important things to understand about blades is these can also be used with circular saws, bench saws and table saws. They come in a number of different sizes so be sure to pick the right size for your saw. You should also know the bore size of your saw. This is important as the bore is the small hole in the blade where it attaches to your saw. Blade have different bore sizes, though you can also buy reduction rings to allow them to fit.

Finally teeth per inch (TPI) dictates the fineness of the cut. 30-40 TPI is used for general cutting. If you are cutting laminates or want a fine finish then a blade with 80-120 TPI is a much better choice.

Mitre Saw Stands

By adding a stand to your mitre saw, then this greatly increases the usefulness of your saw. These are ideal if you work with wider pieces of wood where it needs to be supported so as you can get it cut accurately.

By clamping your saw to the stand, you can then use the extending stand to support the wood, while you get on with the cutting process. If there was only one accessory that would want to have, then this would be top of our list.

Out of all the accessories that we have bought over time, this one has got the most regular use. There are of course any number of different styles to pick from.

It used to be the case that you had to buy the same brand of stand as your saw. That is no longer the case as almost all mitre saw stands have universal fittings. Always check that is the case though just to certain.

Work Piece Clamps

Almost inevitably when working with wood, you will always need a good set of clamps.

These leave your hands free while you can then get on with making sure you get the right cut.

They come in vertical and corner styles and if you are someone who would regularly be working with wood, you already know just how useful these can be.

Many mitre saws will come with some type of clamping. We would however recommend having a few additional clamps as they can come in very useful.

Mitre Saw Protractors

If you are someone who takes a great deal of pride in delivering the “perfect” job, then you should give some serious consideration to getting yourself a protractor. These are fantastic for creating highly precise angles for making the perfect mitre joint.

When walls meet, in principle they should be at the perfect 90 degree angle. In reality though this will seldom be the case and they are usually out by a few degrees. One of these can measure that difference and you can then adjust your mitre angle to perfection.

The accessories that we have listed above are by far the most popular available. If you plan on doing a lot of work around the house, then these are worth the investment. For a professional or serious carpenter they are a necessity in our opinion.
