My New Year's Resolutions as a Locksmith – IKS Locksmiths

So another year comes to an end and it’s time to ring in 2019! It’s been a busy and eventful year for IKS Locksmiths, we have moved premises and certain areas of the business have really taken off. As a small business owner I can’t help but think about how I can move the business forward, even over the festive period! I’m not sure there is ever a time when I can completely forget about work, I even get calls on Christmas Day!

There certainly are pros and cons to being self employed but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I know I can make tweaks to improve work life balance and the enjoyment factor of my work. If only I could stick to them!

My Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions

1) Stick to My Guns

There are times as a North London Locksmith when I am put under pressure by customers to reduce prices and to complete work in timeframes that I know are unreasonable. I’ll be honest and say that I this can cause me significant stress. I know that if my business is to survive I need to make a profit and I need to give realistic timeframes. I know that my prices are competitive but for whatever reason locksmithing seems to be something people like to bargain on. This year I plan to stick to my already competitive prices and realistic timeframes. I have found that when I give in to unreasonable requests I end up having regrets. Life is too short for regrets!

2) Spend More Time With My Family

I work to live and what’s the point if I don’t get to spend time with my family.  I have 2 young children who are growing up fast and I know that time with them is precious. This year I want to be home to eat with my family more, do more day trips, and work less at weekends. Time with my loved ones is food for the soul!

3) Keep Fit and Healthy!

It’s such a cliché when it comes to new year’s resolutions but to do my job well I need to eat regularly and healthily to maintain concentration on tricky jobs such as openings where I need to think outside the box. It’s so easy to rush ahead to the next job and skip meals but it doesn’t pay off in the long run. I also plan to make sure that I sign up to a regular fitness class; boxing is my sport of choice.

4) Keep Calm I’m a Locksmith

I have found meditation to be an effective tool to manage my stress. This year I plan to practice more regularly in order to achieve a calm and collected interior and exterior. I know from experience that taking a bit of time out for me has a really positive impact on my work and life in general.

5) Appreciation

Sometimes when things don’t go to plan and get really busy it can be easy to lose focus on the good things. This year I want to make sure that I always remember the things I have to be appreciative of; my amazing family, committed work colleagues, loyal customers and importantly other business contacts and friends who pass work to me and are a real asset to my business. I’d like all these people to know how much I appreciate their support.

In summary I’m going to look after myself more and try to enjoy life more in order to improve my business! That can’t be too hard can it?! I do find that the more pressure I put on myself the worse the outcome. It seems to be a habit that is easy to fall into!

Now I have committed to these in black and white I guess I will need to follow through with them!

What are your new year’s resolutions? Please do share.

Happy New Year.
