The Joys of Being a Locksmith in North London | IKS Locksmiths

I am a an emergency locksmith in London specialising in locks, door entry systems, safes and installation of security grilles in Barnet (North London), Greater London and Hertfordshire. As with any job there are pro and cons to being an independent locksmith. I’d like to share the positive aspects of being a Locksmith with you. There are plenty of positives to mention!

When I decided to become a locksmith I really wasn’t sure what it would be like. Over the years I have had highs and lows and joys and woes! There are just some things about being a locksmith which are priceless.

The Buzz of a Challenge

Life as mobile locksmith is undeniably challenging. Each job presents its own unique set of circumstances and problems to be addressed. I really enjoy this aspect of being a locksmith, no day is the same, no job is the same. I get a kick out of getting to the bottom of things and solving problems with locks that seem impossible. There are straight forward jobs but a lot of the jobs require careful consideration and problem solving. My day is never boring or uneventful.

The unpredictable nature of the job is what keeps me motivated.

Securing work is another challenge! If anyone wants to find a locksmith in my area they will find that they are spoilt for choice. There are so many locksmiths operating in North London (some genuine and many not) that the competition is tough. This can be difficult as mentioned in my previous diary post A Local Locksmith Telling Tales which tells of how locksmiths in my area resort to dishonest measures to secure work. However this really spurs me on to offer an outstanding service in every aspect of my business. I am proud of IKS Locksmiths and there is no compromise when it comes to workmanship and customer service. Being an approved member of the Master Locksmith Association I keep up to date with the latest industry developments and I can say with confidence that due to my experience and dedication I am an expert in my specialist field.

Our Home and Commercial Security Customers

I am a self confessed people person and I love meeting new people. As a local locksmith dealing with home and commercial security in London I get to meet so many different people from all walks of life. I’ve done work for families, eccentric individuals, celebrities (DJS, Actors, Models, Popstars, Sports Personalities), and some really interesting and lovely people. I have worked in some amazing properties. It is quite eye opening to see that range of lifestyles in North London.

Of course professionalism and confidentiality is of great importance when it come to security for high profile clients and all our clients for that matter. As MLA approved locksmiths we take privacy and confidentiality very seriously.

Of course I do come across some unfriendly people (like the lady who didn’t want to pay because she said her husband doesn’t even get paid that much per hour) but on the whole people are appreciative of the work that I do and I get some great feedback and appreciation. I really love this aspect of the job.

Helping People as a Locksmith

Perhaps the best part of being a locksmith is having the opportunity to help people to solve a problem and create a positive outcome. Every day I meet people in distress or in sticky situations. Those that are locked out in the cold, customers who are feeling unsafe and insecure in their home, those that need to protect the valuables they hold in their business or people that have a lock that isn’t working properly and is just really irritating them every day. To be able to help someone sort something that is causing distress or annoyance gives me a great personal boost. I am always keen to provide advice on the phone and through my specialist security blog where we provide customers with free advice for troubleshooting lock problems.

I feel privileged to be doing a job that can have such an impact on how people feel about a situation. When I look back at my original career choices they don’t even come close in this respect.

Life as a London Locksmith

Being a locksmith isn’t suited to everyone but for me it’s right up my street. I’m so glad that I took to the plunge to change my career all those years ago.
