Automatic Taper Brake & Brake Pin Replacement

Follow along with Robby Deatherage, lead technician here at LEVEL5 Tools, as he takes you through the key steps to replacing both your taper’s brake and brake pin.

Replacing the Brake & Brake Pin on Your Automatic Drywall Taper

The brake and brake pin are integral parts of your auto taper. When applying drywall tape, the brake will both help set the pace for your drywall tape’s advancement as well as prevent the taper wheel from turning in the wrong direction – which would leave you with dry patches on the wall.

What’s the best level of resistance for your automatic taper brake? That’s up to you! You typically don’t want to fight to get your drywall tape to advance, and similarly don’t want it to advance too easily so make sure to play around with your settings until they are just right for you.
