Automatic Taper Overfilling

One of the most common mistakes made when loading an automatic taper is overfilling it with joint compound. Although overfilling your taper is a bit of a nuisance, it’s a quick fix and better yet, extremely easy to prevent!

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. When loading the taper, keep 1-2 fingers in the tube as it sits snugly attached to the gooseneck compound pump attachment.
  2. As compound is pumped into your taper, keep two fingers in the bottom of the tube and feel for the piston to make contact.
  3. When the piston can be felt at the bottom of the tube, stop pumping!

Pro tip: Count how many pumps it takes to fill the auto taper to avoid guesswork in the future.
