Lubricating Automatic Drywall Taping Tools

Follow along and watch LEVEL5 President Scott Murray take you through the steps to take (and not take!) when lubricating your automatic drywall tools.

Proper lubrication is an essential component of drywall tool care and should be a regular part of your weekly work flow.

Improper lubrication (i.e. using the wrong lubricants or not lubricating enough) can not only negatively affect your drywall tool’s functionality and the quality of your finish but can also lead to early wear and corrosion of rubber seals and gaskets.

The main takeaways, use a simple 3-in-1 machine oil. We do NOT recommend pressurized lubricants as they contain certain accelerants that can and will wear down the rubber components of your tools over repetitive use. Secondly, too much is better than not enough! As long as you are being mindful in cleaning residual or excess oil from your drywall tools, it’s better to have a little too much than not enough if you want to ensure smooth operation and longevity.
